 WF409ANW Le/1E/Ie/lE Error Code

If you see the words/letters "LE", "Le",  "1e", "1E", "le", "lE", "Suds", "SUDS", or "sUDS" on the display, it is an indication of "oversudsing" or a water level error. This is almost always caused by using too much bleach, softener, detergent or non-HE detergent. However, this could mean there is an issue with the water level sensor.

If the Washing Machine is displaying one of these error codes or leaking, verify/perform the following:

Important: Always use high efficiency detergent to prevent over sudsing. The use of non-HE detergent, or too much detergent, will cause over sudsing, unpleasant odor, error codes, and leaks. To see how to remove this residue and prevent this issue, click here.

Verify the door is firmly closed.
Verify the door seal is clean of all foreign material.

Note: A single strand of hair can cause a leak.

Verify the hose connections are tight and that O rings are installed and not damaged.
Verify the end of the drain hose is inserted no more than 6 inches into the drain pipe and is secured.
Verify the washing machine is level.
Verify the detergent drawer is fully closed.
    Avoid overloading.
    Avoid using too much detergent.

WF409ANW nd

If "nd" is showing on the display, it is an indication of a no drain condition. This is caused by the debris filter being clogged or the drain hose being installed improperly You should make sure the drain hose is not pushed too far into the drain/stand pipe.

Note: An unit that is not level, unbalanced, or overloaded may not drain properly.

  • The stand/drain pipe must be elevated to a minimum of 18 inches and should not exceed 96 inches in elevation. If the drain hose must be bent, use the supplied drain hose guide.
  • Avoid collapsing or damaging the drain hose.
  • For best results, the drain hose should not be restricted in any way by elbows, couplings, or excessive lengths.

To resolve this issue, verify/perform the following:

  • Verify the drain hose properly inserted into the stand/drain pipe. The drain hose should not be inserted more than 6 inches into the stand pipe to prevent an air pocket or siphon from forming.
  •   Inspect and clean the debris filter

WF409ANW nF Error Code Is Displayed

If there is no water or not enough water in the washing machine, verify/perform the following:

Important: If the machine is not getting enough water, a "no fill" (nF) error code will be displayed after 16 minutes of trying to fill. This does not mean there is a defect in the unit. In most cases the issue is related to one of the items listed below.

Verify the door is tightly closed.
Verify the washer is plugged in.
Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. (In your homes electrical panel)
Verify the debris filter is not clogged.

Note: Top Load washers do not have external debris filter access.

Verify the inlet hose filters are clean

Verify the hot and cold water supply hoses are not kinked, and both water supply valves are completely open

Important: Water pressure in the home must be between 30 pounds per square inch and 120 pounds per square inch for the unit to operate properly.

Verify the drain hose is not inserted too far into the home's drain pipe forming a vacuum or syphon. The pressure formed from the vacuum can cause the pressure sensor to "think" the tub has reached the correct water level. When that happens the water valves close, preventing anymore water from entering the unit

Important: You may not see the water going into the washer. However, if the laundry is wet at the end of the cycle, the unit is operating normally. Samsung washers use 12.68 gallons of water per cycle (compared to conventional top loaders which can use around 45 gallons). The 12.68 gallons is the total amount of water used throughout an entire wash cycle. The initial fill does not add 12.68 gallons. During the initial fill, the machine may not appear to have enough water, but this is normal. Your washer adds water after the initial fill to properly mix the detergent.

If you have performed all of the suggestions above and the unit is still not filling with water, service is required

If your washing machine has the word "SUDS" on the display, it has detected an over-sudsing condition, and will stop for a short period to allow the suds to dissipate. This error code is usually caused by too much detergent, or the wrong type of detergent.

Samsung recommends using "HE" (High Efficiency) detergent, which is designed specifically for high efficiency front loader washing machines. "HE" detergent has high efficiency cleaning capabilities with low sudsing properties. Non "HE" detergent normally has high sudsing properties, and will cause excessive amounts of suds in your machine.

If you are already using "HE" detergent and your washing machine is displaying the "SUDS" error code, you may be using too much detergent. Please follow the detergent manufactures suggested amount of detergent. There are many different concentrations of laundry detergent. For example: 1x, 2x and 3x. Be sure to reduce the amount of laundry detergent accordingly.

Note: This error code is not an indication of a malfunction of the washing machine

 WF409ANW 5E

The 5E error code appears when there is an issue with the drain pump. This can occur because of a drain pump or Main PCB malfunction. More commonly, this happens when the debris filter is clogged.

To clean the debris filter, follow these steps:

Warning: If you were running a cycle with hot water temperature settings (including Pure Cycle™ and Sanitize), the water in the washer may be very hot. Allow enough time (1 hour will suffice) for the water to cool, before performing this procedure to avoid possible injury.

Open the debris filter access cover by pressing down on the tab and pulling/folding the cover down.
Locate the black rubber drain hose (aka emergency drain hose) and if attached, release it from its holder.
Place a towel on the floor to prevent water damage to the floor.
Remove the white drain plug from the emergency drain hose, and then drain the water in a suitable container.
After water stops draining from the auxiliary drain hose, remove the debris filter by turning it counter clockwise and pulling it out.
Inspect and clean the filter, and then reinstall by pushing it in and turning it clockwise until secured.
Reinstall the emergency drain hose cap and secure the hose in its holder.
Reinstall the access panel by placing it into the holes at the bottom of the access panel opening and pushing/folding it into the top.
If the error returns after cleaning out the debris filter, powering off the washer, and then powering it back on, service is required.

 WF409ANW 4E, 4E1, or 4E2

When 4E, 4E1, or 4E2 are displayed, this represents a water supply error due to one or more of the following:

Clogged inlet supply filters - Steps on cleaning the filters are below.
Incorrectly installed water supply hoses - Verify that both supply hoses are connected to each respective water source (i.e. Hot to Hot and Cold to Cold)

 Water supply valve malfunction
    Main PCB malfunction

You should clean the inlet water supply filters at least one time per year, or when you see any of these messages on the display.

To clean the inlet water supply filters, perform the following:

Turn off the water source to the washing machine.
Unscrew the hose from the back of the washing machine.
With a pair of pliers, gently pull out the filters from the end of the hot and cold supply valves, and then rinse them under water until clean. Also clean the inside and outside of the threaded connector.

Push the filter back into place with the tabs facing out.
Screw the hoses back onto the washing machine, turn on the faucets, and then inspect the connections for any leaks.
If you have verified the inlet supply filters are clean and the supply hoses are not crossed, but the issue continues, service is required
